Smelly Sippy Cups

Standard

I have three sippy cup thingies floating around that I randomly use for water, juice and milk…the milk is the problem because I find that after a time,  simply washing the cups with dishwashing liquid do not get rid of that slightly off milky smell :-S

So the solution: just soak  the lot (teats, handles and cups) in VERY salty hot water for a bit (a good half hour or so). It’s not The Ultimate Solution, but it helps. I have read that giving them wash in the dishwasher helps too, but a lot of sippy cups (and teats) can not stand the heat. Another solution that I came across on the net is to simply though them away and buy a new one.

We are going to two playgroups and baby swimming each week. Tuesdays playgroup in the morning and swimming in the late afternoon. Fridays the other playgroup. If the weather permits we head out to the playground each day for at least half an hour. The closest playground is about 20 min walk from home so add that and that’s a good 1 and a half hour of fresh air 😀

Trying to lose weight so that I am not “fat” going into my next pregnancy…YES, we are planning on starting with No.2. Hopefully be pregnant in August. My plan is then to get as fit as possible (and keep up the exercise while pregnant) and start taking those Pregnancy vitamins before we start.  Hopefully all goes well. Kinda looking forward to it!!

She is a busy little thing! Still not walking, but is “walking” around with her VTech.  She LOVES her Dad and he gets called by his name too! When is she going to start saying Ma or Mama?!?

She copies her Dad’s ‘tickle-tickle-tickle’ by trying to say it and doing the hand movement allong…very sweet!

We all got sick a while ago and I tell ya, a sick baby is no joke. She ran a fever of 40 one early morning and we decided its best to take her in to the Hospital. Scary stuff…I also learned that a temp of 39 is fever and not the 38.

It looks like she is also going to be a big reader. We find ourselves wondering where she is because it’s all quite (and it is usually when it’s all quite that you know they are up to something!) and most of the time we find her sitting peacefully in front of her bookshelf ‘reading’ her books!!

We have this white tube of cream, and for some reason she really likes this tube…so when she gets her hands on it she will hold it out to me so that I can put a little bit in the palm of her hand. She then copies me rubbing the cream into her hands and then smelling it.

She is getting better and better at eating by herself. LOVES bread, any bread! Buns with raisins or chocolate bits, Bauernbrot, Toast and especially  old dried out crusty bits…hehe

I really want to stop breast-feeding and finding it not so easy! She still likes having a good feed and she especially likes to fall asleep while feeding, but her teeth! Man o man…its no joke any more. I have started to give her some warm milk with honey in it when she ‘tells’ me she wants to feed. And I try to let her fall asleep by herself instead of falling asleep while feeding. I actually have her here next to me sleeping soundly in her baby chair that changes in to a rocking chair. I placed her on it and at first it was great fun to be rocked (and a very good distraction from not having her usual feed) and then just like that she was fast asleep hehe.  So my plan is to cut down on the feeding as much as possible day by day and then hopefully, soon, no more. She does get very upset with me if she cannot get what she wants.

***

She is not breastfeeding any more. Took about a week. Gave her the warm milk and honey in a bottle with a No. 4 Avent teat, but have now changed it so she drinks it from her 6 to 18 month Nuk Sippy Cup instead and she actually drinks better from the sippy cup than the bottle. All good!!

Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell

Standard

This book is our little girls favourite. It’s a sweet little story asking the Zoo to send a pet…they send odd things but gets it right at the end! The book has these flaps that you open to see the animal the Zoo sent. Our little girl loves opening up the flaps and she has been able to open up the flaps by her self from 10 months old. The flaps are sturdy, but I would not leave the book lying around because she will be able to tear the flaps off so we read it toghether atleast twice a day 😀

One Year Old!!

Standard

Big First Birthday today!! Wow, time has gone by so fast…I made her a Princess Castle Cake. Turned out really well I think! Considering that it was the first time that I made a 3 tier cake and worked with MMF (marshmallow fondant). Her Dad and I got her the VTech Baby Laptop and Walker for her birthday. He also took the day off, which I think is just super. He will be coming with to take pics and video our little one at her Baby Swimming Classes tonight.

Wow, so yes, one whole year! She is saying words like: kak, dad and baba

Not walking yet, but loves it when we hold her hands and help her to walk

Still only two bottom teeth BUT one can kinda see almost all the other teeth sitting really low inside the gums.

Waves

Blows kisses

Helps to get herself dressed.

Loves bath time. Because she is now pretty good at pulling her self up, bathing involves a lot of standing up in the baby tub…

Very gentil with the cats..most of the time.

Very loud!

Makes faces

Likes to feed herself.

Likes grapes and peas

Getting much better and drinking from her Nuk sippy cup by herself

Still breastfeeding

Waking up about two times a night

11 Months old!

Standard

Ooo, only one more month to go before the BIG 1 !!

She holds on to furniture and walks around.

Pages through her books.

Gives my chest a pat to say that she wants some milk.

Loves to be chased!

Eating was down, then it picked up again, but now down again…thinking that new teeth are on the way.

Slept through the night 3 nights in a row!!

Started watching Star Wars (started with Eps IV).

Closes her eyes tightly when she has had enough to eat or drink.

Unlocks her jaw…weird…hehe

Does this thing where she stands on the couch between her Dad and I. She kinda leans over to look us in the eye and when we say “Yes?” she shrieks and starts bouncing up and down while holding on to the couch.

She likes passing us things too…then we say ‘Thank you!” with a big smile on our faces and look all surprised again when she hands something to us for the 10th time…hehe

Really seems to like bouncing like a crazy when she hears a tune she likes!

Waves!

Says ‘Hallo’, Dad, and now and then Mama.

When we ask her where one of our cats are, she looks for them. And when she sees them, she gives a big smile.

Helps Dad make a fire.  Before he lights the fire, she helps him ‘build’ the fire by adding little bits of wood found on the floor hehe

Finding her building blocs in interesting places…

Does not mind to sit by herself and play.

Our T.V. has this half way mark now…one half nice, clean and clear…the other has sticky hand prints and bits of food…o joy

She managed to switch our lounge computer off.

Gets all ‘happy’  when she sits on my lap or in her high chair and I start-up The Sims on my computer. She seems to really like that tune.

Not a very good eater at the moments…

Can stand on her own without holding on for a second or two.

Holds on to couch with one hand.

Gives one or maybe two steps…attempting to cruse.

Makes indian sound by using her tongue

Likes to be chased.

Trying to climb on to things and through things.
